Requirements:
The ToolMaker/Machinist is responsible for performing a wide variety of tasks that require a high degree of skill. Therefore, must have completed an accredited apprenticeship program or a 2-year degree or certificate in tooling/machining.
Must have 3 to 5 years of increasing experience in tool fabrication, and 5 to 7 years of increasing experience in tooling/machining, or 8 to 10 years of increasing experience in a toolroom environment.
Should possess significant and demonstrable knowledge of tool fabrication, machining, and design. This knowledge will include, but not be limited to, the safe operation of lathes, mills, and surface grinders, both manual and CNC.
The individual must be able to work with solid models and program CNC machining centers, read blueprints and sketches, understand tolerances and their effect on machining parts, and be familiar with metallurgy.
Responsibilities:
Perform close-tolerance tool machining using common tool shop equipment, such as lathes, mills (manual and CNC), and surface grinders.Work with solid models and program CNC machining centers, read blueprints and sketches, understand tolerances and their effect on machining parts, and assist in the recommendation of materials for tools.
Be familiar with secondary finishing operations, such as heat treating and tempering, and their effects on parts, to account for them when fabricating tools.
Maintain the necessary documentation to support the ISO/TS-16949 initiative. Maintain a reasonable inventory of tool and die steels to support business activities.
Collaborate with Engineering to design and develop tooling and equipment upgrades in order to reduce costs, improve productivity, or the manufacturability of parts. Perform other duties as assigned.
